Americans: The real Tomato is a Veggie debate

I know many of you are up in arms about this but there is a core issue many of you might not even know. A very common misconception in the U.S. is that the Tomato is a vegetable.

The Tomato is and always has been a fruit! (wiki)

Be it in paste form, sliced or whole, a tomato can never be a vegetable. It is only considered a veggie in the U.S. due to a Supreme Court ruling in the late 1800’s because of customs regulations. It is not actually a vegetable. So, when speaking in nutritional terms, it should ALWAYS be classified as a fruit.

What does this mean? The majority of the U.S. congress does not have a education in simple botany that most small children around the world understand. It also likely is another time for people outside of the U.S. to laugh about how loudly and proudly we proclaim our ignorance as Americans.
