Am I doing it wrong?
IMNS is a not safe for work Tumblr that I created as an outlet for crazy stuff that me and now another friend find on the web. The site has been featured on The Awesomer, Tosh 2.0 a few times and on the Comedy Central main page even. It is clearly about humor and not porn. Now and again, nudity is consequential. It has just over only 4,000 followers on Tumblr but does a killing in network traffic for us. The site oftens averages 10 pageviews per user which is crazy.
So, I start thinking. If IMNS can do that much traffic, we could monetize it which would mean other sites on our network should need fewer ads. See, I view sites on our network as a part of a large overall idea where each site helps a little which makes the network run. Ads on IMNS could get us enough money to ship out prizes to 50 people in a contest on Herochan for example. The problem is, I have no idea how to monetize NSFW content and I don’t really like the idea of having porn ads on our site. It is not a porn site. IMNS was more supplimental to the network and not really created to be a money maker.
So, last night we implemented 2 new ads on IMNS. Our ad network basically looks at our content and then supplies ads which it thinks will fit our content best. Hence the “make your dick bigger” and “It’s the Facebook of Sex” ads rolling in. It isn’t exactly in our control but we can ban specific ads if we see fit. We can’t ban them all though.
What would you do?
