SW Vehicles: AT-ST

The All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) was a bipedal walker used by the Galactic Republic during the late Clone Wars and, later and more extensively, the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. Colloquially known as a “chicken walker” because of its shape and walking motion, the AT-ST was a heavily armed light ground combat vehicle, and able to trek various environments. It was equipped with a chin-mounted double medium blaster cannon, a concussion grenade launcher on the starboard side of its head, two durasteel feet with claws, and a blaster cannon on the port side. Ewoks: How do we know what we know? I am going to tell you 2 very simple things about Ewoks, that will make many of you want to go back and watch the films again. Both of these facts are 100% true which makes us wonder, ‘How do we know what we know?’ #1. At no point are Ewoks actually called ‘Ewoks in the films. No really. The word does not appear in Return of the Jedi at all. While you are probably thinking that it just isn’t possible and are looking for your ROTJ DVD right now, it is likely that the name just became locked into our heads from the toys, breakfast cereals, books, records, friends talking about them, etc. Branding probably taught us the name. The films didn’t.  #2. Who is your favorite Ewok? Is it Wicket? Or maybe you are a fan of Paploo? If you only watched the films, there is no way you could know who is who. Much like #1 above, not only were they never called Ewoks, they also were never mentioned individually by name. So Wicket, was never actually called ’Wicket in ROTJ (maybe in Ewokese). So, once again, for likely the same reasons as above, these names just locked into our heads but not for the reasons we may have assumed.  Bonus: The “primitive language” of Ewokese is actually based on human language. Though there are a few words mixed in here and there from Tibetan and Nepali, most of what you hear is from a rare and almost extinct language called the Kalmyk language.   (via:tiefighters) Note from Ron: The first time I heard this I immediately started watching Return of the Jedi again because I just could not believe that it was true.
